2D ASAP : Bidimensional Architectures Self Assembled and Properties

Leader: Laurence Masson

Introduction

Mastering the development of surfaces with a periodic structure at the nanoscale appears to be a major issue in the synthesis of new materials.

In this field, many concepts still need to be discovered, both on the growth methods of these surfaces and on the relationships between nanostructuring on large scales and the resulting physical properties.

The 2DASAP team synthesizes under ultrahigh vacuum and studies two-dimensional systems adsorbed on surfaces in order to establish these structures-properties links. The two principal investigated architectures are molecular self-assemblies (supramolecular and covalent) (figure 1) and inorganic structures (silicon nanoribbons, graphene, van der Waals heterostructures (figure 2).

Experimental studies of these materials are conducted jointly by scanning probe microscopy (atomic scale structure, electronic properties) and by optical reflectivity measurements.
