Théorie et Simulation Numérique

Présentation

L’activité de recherche du département Théorie et Simulation Numérique (TSN) relève essentiellement des aspects théoriques et de simulation numérique appliqués à la physique des solides et à la science des matériaux

Le département TSN, à l’image du CINaM, s’intéresse à de multiples classes de matériaux pour l’énergie (matériaux pour le nucléaire, pour la collecte d’énergie thermique ou pour le photovoltaïque), les applications optiques (nanoparticules, agrégats et nanotubes) et l’électronique avancées (semi-conducteurs, oxydes, matériaux van-der-Waals, hétérostructures pour la spintronique).
Ces matériaux se présentent dans des configurations topologiques et structurales diverses (monocristaux, milieux désordonnés ou non-cristallins, surfaces et interfaces, nanostructures et nanomatériaux, agrégats, multicouches etc.) qui exigent parfois le développement d’approches théoriques et numériques multi-échelles.
Notre département aborde un large panel de sujets de recherche mais qui peuvent se regrouper en trois grandes thématiques:

Certains de nos travaux sont purement théoriques tandis que d’autres impliquent des collaborations étroites avec des expérimentateurs au CINaM ou à l’extérieur. Notre activité de recherche nécessite l’utilisation de codes complexes, certains écrits par la communauté, d’autres optimisés pour le calcul hautes performances développés en interne. Pour le calcul numérique, nous utilisons les ressources nationales ainsi que notre propre cluster de calcul de plus de 2200 cores.

Centre de calcul scientifique

Le département Théorie et Simulation Numérique possède un cluster de calcul hébergé dans une salle mutualisée de l'Université d'Aix-Marseille dans le campus de Luminy. Ce moyen de calcul est accessible à toute personne du CINAM et ouverts aux collaborateurs extérieurs du département.

Près de 2300 coeurs de calcul répartis sur 100 machines sont disponibles pour exécuter des codes scientifiques en mode séquentiel ou parallèle.

Les codes sont développés en interne ou font appel à des codes de référence dans nos domaines de prédilection.
