Project: Crystallization of Model Systems

Contact: S. Veesler

In the context of microfluidic crystallization, we are developing a versatile microfluidic tool that is easy to use by non-specialists for the optimization and screening of crystallization conditions, the rapid establishment of phase diagrams and the measurement of crystal nucleation kinetics (volume nL).

Versatile in the sense of all crystallization media (solvents) and all types of materials.

(a) and (b) lysozyme crystals, (c) rasburicase crystal, (d) crystals of a membrane protein, (e) caffeine crystal in ethanol isonocotinamide crystals (f) in ethanol and (g) in nitrobenzene in a drop (h) CaCO3 crystal in water.

Examples:

The experimental and modeling study of the role of the elaboration conditions on the facies and surface energy of mineral and organic crystals is addressed in the ANR FACET.

For new materials obtained generally in very small quantities or dangerous to handle: the "nano-volumes" make it possible to reduce the quantities to be handled for the studies of crystallization and the development of industrial processes.
