Introduction

Inorganic 2D

The work involves depositing a thin material (of the order of a monolayer) on a monocrystal of a noble metal such as, Ag, Au, Ni, Pt. Since the discovery of Graphene, other materials likely to modify their electrical properties due to their 2D periodic structures are studied in our group.

Figure 1 shows the structural characteristics of Silicene, equivalent to Graphene for silicon, on Ag (111).

Figure 2 show the structural characteristics of Zn on Ag (110). Unlike silicide, which can become a conductor, the Zn monolayer can become a Mott insulator.
