Aurélien Manchon awarded “Distinguished Lecturer” by IEE Magnetics

This title is awarded each year to a member of the IEEE Magnetics Society for excellence in the field of magnetism, not only in its fundamental aspects but also in its possible applications.

Aurelien Manchon received this distinction for his contributions on the theory of spin transport in the presence of spin-orbit coupling in magnetic heterostructures.

Among the many effects involved, this work has led to a better understanding of spin-orbit torque, a mechanism for electrically manipulating the magnetization of magnetic materials, as well as of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, a coupling that gives rise to complex magnetic structures such as skyrmions.
