FUN

Functional Nanomaterials

Leader: Christine Videlot-Ackermann

Introduction

The research team "Functional Nanomaterials" (FUN) is internationally recognized for its multidisciplinary expertise in the development of opto-electronic and plasmonic nanomaterials, deep studying of transport and morphology at nanoscale as wel as solution processing of corresponding devices including organic solar cells and photodetectors, hybrid LEDs, gaz sensors and transistors.

The designed materials are mostly nanocomposite materials based on metal or metal oxide nanoparticles, organic/inorganic hybrid nanoparticles using pi-conjugated ligands and polymer blends.

The research activities of FUN are focused on the control of the opto-electronic properties at nanoscale towards improving or generating novel material properties. The optoelectronic properties of the developed nanomaterials are furthermore studied in detail concerning their nano structuration, charge transport and photostability. As FUN aims to process organic and hybrid printed devices such as solar cells, we have also a major focus on ink development to render the materials compatible with different printing techniques including ink jet printing, doctor blading, slot die or spin coating into devices structures. This allows us to correlate nanoscale morphology, size and nanocomposite organization, printing behavior to improve material properties in printed devices including not only solar cells, but also light emitting diodes (LEDs), photodetectors, Bio- and Gas sensors as well as plasmonic camouflage. By closely working with French companies such as Dracula Technologies and Armor ASCA we also developed expertise in lab to fab transfer of organic solar cells including large area processing in air towards OPV module processing.

In 2016, the FUN team created, together with the OPTO-PV team of the IM2NP laboratory, a joint team called "FUN-PV" which is dedicated to the development of organic and hybrid nanomaterials aiming photovoltaic applications.
