Materials / Nanomaterials & Environment

Leader: Daniel FERRY

Introduction

The research activity of the team focuses on the multi-scale study of the morphology, structure and reactivity of nanostructured solids, using analytical methods combining imaging and spectroscopies at atomic and molecular scales.

The interdisciplinary nature of the team’s activity relies on the multiple skills of its members, researchers or teaching-researchers in physics, physical chemistry, geology and mineralogy.

Research programs developed by the team deal with various domains, including:

  • Geomaterials (clays, serpentines, concrete & cement, shale-rocks, etc.) and biominerals (mollusc shells, foraminifera tests, etc.), with subjects related to their formation and their aging.
  • Environmental solids, such as ices and aerosols (carbonated aerosols, marine aerosols, etc.), from the near (earth, atmosphere, oceans) or far environment (solar system, interstellar space), in relation with their atmospheric impacts (radiative, chemical).
