Molecular Engineering and Functional Materials

The IMMF research activities are at the crossroad of chemistry-physics-biology and focus mainly on the synthesis, physicochemical characterization and properties of organic, inorganic and / or hybrid molecular structures for energy, health, environment, information and communication.

These themes are structured in three main research axes that are molecular materials for photonics, molecular materials for electronics and nanomedicine with a global multidisciplinary approach (syntheses - development of nanostructured materials - characterizations), leading to the development of devices whose properties fulfill the major societal concerns.

The IMMF department has a strong knowledge and has developed a solid expertise in molecular and supramolecular chemistry that enables it to synthesize and characterize nanostructures based in particular on pi-conjugated aromatic and heteroaromatic molecules, amphiphilic, glycosidic and chiral molecules.

In this context, the molecular engineering of several original families of chromophores has been developed responding to scientific and technological issues at the forefront of current concerns.

The department is also involved in the synthesis of inorganic or hybrid nanoparticles for applications in the energy field, or organic nanoparticles and dendrimers for applications in personalized medicine and care.

A particular effort is also made to deposit, growth, self-organization of nanostructures in solution and toward the functionalization of substrates for the development of functional materials.
